I bought Obie a Specialized Hot Rock pedal bike with 12" wheels on Craigslist -- relatively light and strong, and with a forward-placed bottom bracket that makes the geometry better for little riders.
On his second time on the bike, Obie was balancing by himself and figuring out how to pedal! He's 3! The Strider balance bike really paid off!
